Fishburners Launches Program For Women Founders

Fishburners kicked off its inaugural Fempowered program in partnership with Google for  Startups this week, with a 12-week program providing intensive support to nine women founders.

As a flagship pilot for next year’s national and open-to-the-public program, Fempowered fast-tracks women founders with external expert support to overcome the key pain-points Fishburners sees affecting startups.

Business health checks, best organisational practises, marketing, sales and financial planning are amongst the key themes addressed by the program.

Exclusive to Fishburners, the selected women founders within the Sydney community are provided with three months free at Fishburners, six interactive and productive workshops and one-on-one coaching.

The startups in the Fempowered 2019 program are EvertySkoutliBlisspotFinkkeFindyourmapDatepalEcoRenewableEnergyMyWhanau and I Get U

Nicole O’Brien, CEO of Fishburners said, “We are showing up 110% for women founders. Globally female founders only make up 14% of startups according to Genome. At Fishburners around 25% of our community are women founders, and we are ultimately going for parity with an initial goal of 35% over the next 2 years.

“Fempowered is taking tangibly addressing the support women need to start and springboard their businesses. Traditionally, women have a lot more unpaid and unrecognised responsibilities that reduce their freedom to take risks and back themselves. Fishburners is hoping to turn that around and we hope the rest of the startup ecosphere does the same.”

Fempowered 2020 applications will open in February and are open to the general public. More information can be found at www.fishburners.org
